2023 Pre-med Enhancement Winter Program
What is the eligibility for applying to the CGU Program?
Undergraduate student currently enrolled in, and incoming freshman to any degree program offered by universities located in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, aiming for careers in medicine or health sciences. If you attend universities in Taiwan, you are not eligible to apply regardless of your nationality.
Do I need a visa to enter Taiwan and to attend the CGU Program?
Depending on your passport issuing countries, passports issuing countries such as the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK do not need to apply for a visa to enter Taiwan and to attend the CGU Program within 90 days of stay in Taiwan. For passport holders of Singapore and Hong Kong (SAR), please email the CGU Program in order to clarify: premed@gap.cgu.edu.tw
How long is the CGU Pre-med Enhancement Winter Program?
The Program’s Core-curriculum is 3-weeks (2023/12/18~2024/1/5) consisting of (1) Medical sciences lecture courses; (2) Simulation-based hands-on clinical skills courses; (3) Clinical shadowing, and (4) Special lectures in Chinese Traditional Medicine and AI.
The Program also provides two Add-on modules before and after the Core-curriculum, each Add-on module is one week; the Add-on module (1) dates: 2023/12/11~12/15; the Add-on module (2) dates: 2024/1/8-1/12. The Add-on modules are optional and with an additional program fee.
Are the CGU Program courses taught in English? Do I need to have Chinese language proficiency in order to apply/ attend the Program?
All courses in the CGU Pre-med Enhancement Program, including the clinical shadowing in the Chang Gung Memorial Hospitals, are taught in English. You do not need to have Chinese language proficiency in order to apply/ attend this Program.
Can I transfer the Program credit back to my home institution?
In general, yes. After completion of the Program, you will receive a Chang Gung University (CGU) official transcript with contact hours and grades (percentage and letter grades), with each course’s syllabus.
The Program highly recommends that you talk to or email your home institution department/ degree program advisor or counselor, and discuss with your home institution’s advisor/ counselor whether the Program Courses with its contact-hour design, may transfer back to your home institution. If you have other specific questions about credit transfer, please email your question to the CGU Program at premed@gap.cgu.edu.tw.
How will the Program Courses be evaluated?
The grade for each course depends on your performance on the in-class quizzes and/ or group presentation, and your program attendance. You will receive grades (% and letter) for Medical sciences lecture courses, Special lectures in Chinese Traditional Medicine and AI, and for Simulation-based hands-on clinical skills courses.
All Clinical Shadowing courses will be on Pass/ Fail with contact-hours, evaluation will be based 100% on attendances, which will be marked on the CGU transcript as “Independent Studies: Clinical Shadowing in Chang Gung Memorial Hospitals (Linkou and Taoyuan)”. If I have to ask for a leave of absence during the Program, will I still get the credit?
You will have to attend at least two-third (2/3) of the CGU Pre-med Enhancement Winter Program in order to receive the CGU official transcript. Program attendance will be counted daily.
Apart from the courses, will there be extracurricular activity during weekends or holidays?
CGU and the Program will host optional cultural activities such as Christmas Party and New Year’s Eve Fireworks event countdowns during the program period. Cultural activities are optional and with no extra cost, and are subject to availability and change with Program announcement.
Is it possible for me to take courses in the Spring semester at CGU?
Yes. You can take courses in the Spring semester at CGU as an exchange student or a visiting student. Please note that the additional tuition and fees may apply for the CGU Spring Semester courses, CGU on-campus accommodations in the Spring Semester will also charge fees.
What does the Program Fee consist of? Are accommodation, meals, and insurance included?
The Program Fees include tuition and fees of the Program, shuttle buses during the program between campus and hospitals, CGU on-campus accommodations, breakfast and lunch on Mondays to Fridays, breakfast on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, insurance coverages for Taiwan clinic visits and for travels in Taiwan, and optional cultural activities, during the Program period.
Optional airport pick-up and drop-off, metro pass with pre-loaded amount, Taiwan universal SIM card with data and Taiwan cellphone number, and other optional services will also be provided by this Program, along with e-surveys once you have been admitted to the CGU Pre-med Enhancement Program.
How many people will be placed in one dormitory room? What will be provided/ featured in the dorm room?
CGU Program on-campus housing will be a double room (two people per room). Shower-and-Bathroom is inside each dorm room. There are two Laundry Rooms on the same floor. In the dorm room, mattress, bedding (sheets and winter comforters), pillow and pillow cover, shower supplies (shampoo and shower gel), shower and hand towels, toothbrush and toothpaste, hair dryer (one per room) will be provided. WiFi will be available in the dorm room. Complimentary WiFi will be available in the dorm room and throughout the CGU campus.
