Alien Resident Certificate

Alien Resident Certificate

Resident Visa holders are required to apply for the Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) and Re-entry Permit at the local service centers of National Immigration Agency within 15 days after their arrival.

ARC extension application MUST be submitted online; please see here for more information.

Immigration Agency

Residents in Taoyuan may submit the application to National Immigration Agency Taoyuan City Service Center:

For residents in other cities, please go to the local service centers in your resident cities.

New Students

Required Documents:
  1. An application form.
  2. One 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm color photo with a white background, taken within the last 12 months and printed on glossy photo quality paper. Please refer to the application form for the requirements of the photo.
  3. The original passport and Resident Visa, and one photocopy of each (originals will be returned after verification).
  4. Enrollment Certificate and Housing Certificate (will be collected by OIA).
  5. Those who live off-campus, please submit the lease you signed with your landlord or the Household Registration if you live with relatives or friends.

NOTE: OIA will submit the ARC application for new students living in Taoyuan City only. Please submit the above required documents to OIA by the designated date. From the second year, please submit the application to Immigration Agency by yourselves.

Continuing Students (extension)

Please submit the required documents to the Local Immigration Service Center by yourselves one month before your ARC expires.

Required Documents:

  1. A completed application form.
  2. One 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm color photo with a white background, taken within the last 12 months and printed on glossy photo quality paper. Please refer to the application form for the requirements of the photo, and the map for photo booths around Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (make sure to select photos for Alien Resident Certificate 居留證).
  3. The original passport and ARC, and one photocopy of each (originals will be returned after verification).
  4. Enrollment Certificate (can be purchased from the automatic payment machine on the 2nd floor, First Medical Building), or the original student ID card and a certified copy of it. Make sure you bring the copy to Ms. Lin of Graduate Studies Section of the Office of Academic Affairs for the official stamp (please refer to sample).
  5. Housing Certificate (not required if your address is the same).
  6. If you just move into CGU's dormitory, please contact Mr. Lu of Housing Office for the housing certificate.
  7. Those who live off-campus, please submit the lease you signed with your landlord and a copy of it or the Household Registration if you live with relatives or friends.
  8. A stamped addressed envelope 掛號回郵信封 (purchased at the post office, NT$29). The Immigration Service Center will send your ARC card to the address on the en velope. If you wish to have your ARC card sent to OIA, please print CGU's address (333 桃園市龜山區文化一路 259 號、長庚大學國際事務處、03-2118800*3345) and paste onto the envelope.

NOTE: For those whose ARC will expire while you are abroad during winter or summer break, please apply for an ARC extension before you leave Taiwan. Fill out the form for early extension application and submit the application documents along with your E-ticket (round-trip ticket) to the Taoyuan Service Center.

For New Graduates

After graduation, you may apply for an ARC extension with the degree certificate (diploma) if you wish to stay in Taiwan to search for a job.

Required Documents:

  1. A completed application form.
  2. One 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm color photo with a white background, taken within the last 12 months and printed on glossy photo quality paper. Please refer to the application form for the requirements of the photo, and the map for photo booths around Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (make sure to select photos for Alien Resident Certificate 居留證).
  3. The original passport and ARC, and one photocopy of each (originals will be returned after verification).
  4. Original degree certificate (diploma) and a copy of it.
  5. Your own housing certificate

NOTE:

  • The maximum extension period is 6 months. After your graduation, you will need to find your own accommodation and CGU's Housing Section will not issue you a housing certificate.
  • On the application form, the purpose of residence will be "others" instead of "study"; no more extension will be granted for the purpose of study.
  • If you are accepted by another university, please use the original "admission/ acceptance letter" from that university to apply for the ARC extension.

Lost ARC

In addition to the above required documents, you will need to submit the "Statement of Lost ARC" to the National Immigration Agency. The application should be submitted online and the fee of re-issuance is NT$500.

In case of losing your ARC in other countries:

  1. Those who are from the countries eligible for the visa exemption program can apply for an ARC after you arrive in Taiwan.
  2. Those who need a visa to enter Taiwan should apply for a resident visa abroad.

Fee

1-year term: NT$1,000

Application Procedure

Please prepare the required documents and go to the Taoyuan City Service Center. The process can be done in person or by a representative.

Notice

  1. If your address is different from the one on your ARC, make sure to apply for "information change" no later than 15 days.
  2. International students have to apply for an ARC extension one month before the expiry date. Those who fail to apply for an extension will have their residence ceased by the authorized agency, and they may be expelled from Taiwan.
  3. If your ARC expires in summer or winter vacation when you are abroad, please apply for an extension before you leave Taiwan with your return flight ticket and all the required documents above. National Immigration Agency will issue you a receipt which is equivalent to a re-entry permit.
